Nephrology is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of kidney disease. These ailments are closely related to heart problems and a complete patient examination is required.

Unfortunately, statistics show that even the slightest viral malaise can provoke quite complex kidney conditions. If no attention is paid in time, chronic disease is produced, with much of it leading to profound and irreversible damage to the kidney tissue.

Diagnosis is performed by tests that are the following:

  • Descending urology
  • Ultrasound examination of the urinary tract
  • Angiography
  • CT
  • Kidney biopsy

Laboratory tests are related to:

  • examining urine levels
  • erythrocyte sedimentation rate
  • C-reactive protein assay

More common diagnoses:

  • Acute kidney failure – Sudden renal impairment
  • Chronic kidney failure
  • Glomerulonephritis
  • Pyelonephritis or lower urinary tract infection
  • Haematuria (blood in the urine)
  • Kidney stones
  • Kidney cancer – predominantly cell carcinoma of the kidneys
  • Renal disease in systemic diseases of the connective tissue

In some cases, there are also urologists – surgeons specializing in the treatment of kidney diseases that are subject to surgical treatment:

  • Kidney cancer
  • Kidney stones
