Circulating tumor cell (CTC) analysis

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) contribute to the formation of metastases and are therefore the subject of in-depth research and ongoing interest in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. The latest technological advances have led to a significant improvement in the methods of detecting, enumerating, expanding and cultivating the analysis. Despite the fact that nearly 150 years have passed since the first detection and description of circulating tumor cells, human blood and the tremendous technological advances that have taken place in this area, especially over the past decade, several methods for the detection of CTC routine clinical trials. This reflects the significant methodological problems associated with the nature of these cells, their heterogeneity and the diverse metastatic potential.
